Romania's Finance Ministry wants to allow citizens to pay all taxes online

19 February 2016

The Finance Ministry plans to implement a new IT system that will enable citizens to pay online any tax, fee, fine or any amounts regardless of the public institutions.

The new IT system will take over some of the services and functionalities provided by the online application called ghiseul.ro, reports local Hotnews.ro. The fee will be 0.3% of the amount and will be paid from the state budget.

Ghiseul.ro currently allows people to pay online by card the local taxes for a fee of maximum RON 30 (EUR 6.7), as well as car fines to 192 municipalities.

Delia Popescu, the head of the agency that manages Ghiseul.ro, said that the state should prove maturity in spending money and not duplicate existing functionalities.

However, the Finance Ministry stated that taxpayers shouldn’t depend on the public institutions’ willingness to accept payments by card or not.
