Romania’s Court of Auditors will have a new management

20 September 2017

Nicolae Vacaroiu, the president of Romania’s Court of Auditors will end his nine-year mandate in October this year.

Deputy president Doina Dascalu and other managers in the institution will also reach the end of their mandates. The Parliament will appoint new managers.

The stake is a big one because the Court of Auditors is a key institution for verifying the way public institutions spend their money.

The law on the Court of Auditors has been recently amended to allow people with engineering studies to become managers in the institution. It was previously mandatory to have economic or legal studies. The Parliament will now set a deadline for the submission of candidatures and then a deadline for hearing the candidates.

It is rumored that senator Niculae Badalau, the executive president of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), could take over as the institution’s president. Other sources said that former finance minister Viorel Stefan may be appointed as president of the Court of Auditors, according to local Hotnews.ro.
