Romanian to set new rules on social security contributions for copyright income

05 September 2010

Romanians who gain income from copyright and civil conventions will have their statements on social security contributions filed by their employers, who will also transfer these contributions to the budget, Finance Minister Gheorghe Ialomitianu told newspaper Gandul Sunday.

The minister said the measure will be implemented through an emergency decree, which will have to be drawn up by Wednesday. Regarding the draft emergency decree which increases the level of social security contributions for income gained from freelance activities, Ialomitianu said no decisions have been taken so far. The draft decree, which was put up for public debate on Thursday, states that Romanians who gain income from freelance activities will pay social security contributions of at least 25.36% up to 35% of their income starting next year, nearly double from the current level of contributions.
