Romanian tennis player Ilie Nastase gets elected for Senate

Ilie Nastase, the most successful Romanian tennis player of all time, has been elected to the Senate, following partial elections on Sunday, May 26, 2014. He competed in electoral college number 8 in Bucharest with the support of the Social Democratic Party (PSD).

Nastase, who is now 67 years old, was one of the world’s top tennis players in the 1970s. He was ranked world number one between August 1973 and June 1974. He is one of the five players in history to win more than 100 ATP professional titles, including two individual Grand Slam titles: the 1972 US Open and the 1973 French Open.
