Romanian state-owned television TVR needs financial support from the Government to cover the logistic and technical costs of broadcasting the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. TVR would need USD 560,000 to cover these costs, according to a letter Stelian Tanase, the head of TVR, sent to the Government last week.

“Although the technical costs are lower than the ones for the London 2012 Summer Olympics, they exceed TVR’s financial possibilities,” reads the letter, cited by Paginademedia.ro.

TVR has the exclusive rights for this competition and will broadcast some 400 hours on its TVR 1, TVR 2, TVR 3 and TVR HD televisions.

“TVR’s financial situation hasn’t improved so, together with my colleagues from the Romanian Television Council of Administration, I ask the Government’s support for broadcasting the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics,” Tanase says in the letter.

Rio 2016 Summer Olympics will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, between August 5 and August 21.
