Romanian sentenced to death in Malaysia for drug trafficking

A 21-year-old Romanian was recently sentenced to death by the High Court in Malaysia for drug trafficking, but his lawyers will appeal the decision.

The Romanian was suspected of trafficking almost 1.5 kg of methamphetamine in June 2012, which was discovered during baggage checking at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

A statement from the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs states that “according to the information provided by the diplomatic mission, the conviction decision is not final and the sentence will be appealed under the local law.”

The Romanian was born in Telega village in Prahova county, Romania.
