Romania’s President Traian Basescu is currently paying an official visit to Israel, where he met Israeli  President Shimon Peres.

Between January 19 and January 21, Basescu will make visits to Israel and the Palestinian Territories.

“In Israel I will meet President Peres, prime-minister Netanyahu, the President of Knesset, foreign minister Lieberman, but also Romanians, and of course I will visit the Holocaust Museum - Yad Vashem and other objectives of interest. In Palestine I will have only one meeting with President Mahmoud Abbas,” said Basescu in a statement.

According to him, one of the main objectives of the visit is the bilateral cooperation.

“One of the targets on scientific cooperation is the transfer of Israeli technology in the medical field, as well as inviting Israeli experts to participate in the laser project at Magurele. We also want to extend the Romanian-Israeli cooperation into agriculture and food industry,” said Traian Basescu.
