Romanian PM appoints new budget minister

20 August 2014

Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta has named Darius Valcov to replace Liviu Voinea as budget minister. He sent the nomination to President Traian Basescu who already rejected Ponta’s first nominee for this job, Claudiu Manda.

Basescu has no other option than to accept this second nomination. Just like Manda, Valcov is a young politician, 37 years old. He has a doctorate in economy, but in the last ten years he only worked in state administration positions, first as mayor of Slatina and then as a senator.

Liviu Voinea, a young technocrat, left the Budget Ministry after he was appointed as deputy governor of Romania’s National Bank (BNR).
