Romanian health employees want same work schedule as EU colleagues

18 February 2015

Employees in the health system have asked the Health Ministry to enforce the recent EU legislation on number of hours worked by doctors, and have threatened with asking the European Commission to open the infringement procedures.

The “Health Solidarity” Federation has given the Health Ministry two weeks to solve the request, reports local Economica.net.

The European Directive limits the weekly work schedule to 48 hours and regards doctors’ night calls as working time. Romanian authorities too should apply these provisions, the federation says.

In Romania, however, doctors may currently be forced to work an indefinite number of hours per week or per month.
