Romanian exports to China up, but trade still dominated by imports

Romanian exports to China went up by a quarter in the first seven months of the year, after an all-year growth of 34% in 2013, according to Romania’s Economy Ministry.

Romania – China trade reached some USD 2.2 billion during the period, out of which Romania’s exports to China stood at just some USD 500 million.

There were over 11,200 Chinese companies registered in Romania end – August 2014, while the value of Chinese investments in Romania reached EUR 407 million, or 0.8% of total foreign direct investments.

Big Chinese companies are currently under advanced negotiations to build the 3 and 4 units of the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, the 500 MW Rovinari thermo power plant, the Tarnița — Lăpuștești hydro power plant, and the Deva thermal power plant.
