Romanian director Andrei Blaier dies at the age of 78

Romanian director and screenwriter Andrei Blaier died this morning (December 1) at the age of 78. The funeral ceremony will take place on Saturday at 12:00.

Andrei Blaier was born on May 15, 1933 in Bucharest and graduated from the National Institute of Theatre and Film in 1956. He directed numerous films and television series like ‘Mornings of a good boy!’ (1967), "Ciresarii" (TV, 1972), ‘Illustrated With Wild Flowers’ (1975), ‘The ashes of the Empire’ (1976), ‘Shadow and Light’ (TV series, from 1979 to 1982), ‘Matter of fact’ (1984), ‘Great Holiday’ (1988), ‘Love Divorce’ (1991), ‘Stone Cross’ (1993), ‘Terente – king of the marsh’ (1995), ‘Sweet sauna of  death’ (2003).

Blaier received the Romanian Filmmakers Association award for ‘Illustrated With Wild Flowers,’ considered by critics a surprising and original film.

Over the years Blaier discovered and worked with many greats of Romanian cinema, such as Gheorghe Dinica, Marin Moraru, Dear Olteanu-Matei, Maia Morgenstern and Oana Pellea.
