Romanian Communication Authority: Electronic or electrical equipment should have EC mark

19 November 2014

Consumers should check the European Commission (EC) mark when they purchase electronic or electrical equipment, according to Romania’s communication authority ANCOM. ANCOM gave this warning after its inspectors found equipment still in use that does not meet the European standards on electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and disturbs electronic communications (Internet, phone or TV services).

ANCOM controls were initiated following a notification from a TV service provider who complained of communication network disruptions. ANCOM inspectors found out that the electromagnetic disruptions were generated by LED outdoor luminaries in the public street lighting.

“The luminaries did not meet the European EMC standards, and the generated electromagnetic perturbations were beyond the maximum limits in force,” reads the ANCOM press release.
