Romanian authorities decide not to arrest the teenager suspected of jihadist propaganda

10 December 2015

The Romanian authorities have decided not to arrest the teenager accused of making jihadist propaganda online, but to place him under judicial control.

As a result, the young Romanian got to return to his hometown with his mother, where he will have to respect the strict rules of the judicial control.

The decision came after the teenager, aged 17, was subjected to a psychiatric examination at the Mina Minovici National Institute of Legal Medicine in Bucharest. According to the psychiatrists’ preliminary report, the young man is rational, reports local Mediafax.

Prosecutors from the Directorate for Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) detained the young man on December 8 for allegedly making jihadist propaganda online. A recent video of the prosecutors shows that he was willing to sacrifice his life for ISIS causes. For this purpose, he started to search for information on how he could get AK-type weapons, grenades, and bulletproof vests. Moreover, he also searched information about how to make a bomb.

The teenager’s family said that he converted to Islam two years ago. Moreover, he used to go to a Muslim church frequently, according to his grandfather.
