Romania spent EUR 1,500 to remove snow for each kilometre of road last winter

Romania paid more than EUR 47 million for snow removal in the 2012-2013 season, and the real cost of removing snow for one kilometre of road was about EUR 1,500, according to data from the National Roads and Highways Company in Romania (CNADR).

The state paid some EUR 28 million to the companies it contracted to remove the snow across the country. Another EUR 14 million was spent on supplies and transport including sand and salt, which are used for snow removal. The equipment owned by the state administration required some EUR 2.6 million in repairing and maintenance expenses.

The CNADR bought the salt required to remove snow from the National Salt Company Salrom, via a total EUR 22 million contract.
