Romania reported 121 more tourist accommodation units end – July 2014, 2% more year-on-year, to some 6,130, according to the country’s statistics office INS. Of all accommodation types, boarding houses, motels and bungalows saw numbers slightly down. 28 more hotels opened, taking this segment to 1,473 units, while 19 hostels also entered the market segment, which reached a total of 2014 units.

In total, 141,100 rooms await tourists in Romania, most of which – 66.4%, in hotels. Hotels added 1,400 rooms in 2014, while agro-touristic pensions brought some 770 new rooms to the market, and hostels, 233.

There were a few more touristic villas – in total 624, several extra tourist chalets, reaching 162, and a couple of extra agro-touristic facilities – totaling 1,665. End-July, Romania had just 212 motels, 1,323 boarding houses, and 242 bungalows. The bulk of hotel rooms in Romania are three-stars – 40%, while 32.8% are two-stars, and 19.8% are four-stars. A small portion of the hotel market – 3.9% - is five-star.

About a fifth of the total tourist accommodation units are located in Bucharest and in main cities, about a quarter – 26.2% - are in mountain resorts, and 11.3% are at the seaside. Only 7.3% are located in spa resorts, and a mere 2.3% in the Danube Delta, including the city of Tulcea. But seaside hotels seem to have more rooms, as the seaside offer some 83,000 rooms for tourists, while mountain resorts, just 51,000 rooms.

Bucharest and other county capitals have 83,200 rooms. Elsewhere in Romania, 55,600 rooms await tourists, while spa resorts have some 33,600 rooms ready. The Danube Delta and Tulcea city have 4,300 rooms available.
