Romania produces less wine in 2014

24 October 2014

Romania’s wine production dropped by 20% in 2014 to some 4 million hectoliters, from 5.1 million hectoliters in 2013, according to early estimates from the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV). Romania however keeps its 12th place among the world’s largest wine producers.

At a global level, wine production fell by 6% this year, to 271 million hectoliters.

“This reduction in production has been amplified in Eastern European countries: Bulgaria, Romania and Slovakia have recorded significant declines in their wine production compared to 2013 (-30, -20 and -16% respectively), linked to particularly adverse climate conditions,” according to OIV.
