Romania plans EUR 35 mln online system for main civil status documents

22 April 2013

Romania's Information Technology Ministry plans to invest some EUR 35 million in creating an online system which would allow Romanians to receive marriage or divorce certificates, as well as birth and death certificates without the hassle of queuing. Everything should be done online, and citizens would only use their ID card in this process, while the rest of the information will be already included in the system. The Ministry is currently evaluating offers to create this system, after the first stage in the process ended on April 17.

This will be for the first time in Romania's history when the state has found and compiled a history of of civil status documents in the last 100 years, said Dan Nica, the Information Society Minister. “It is not just a simple digitization of documents, but we will re-think processes so as citizens see the added value coming from a shorter interaction with authorities, and for the authorities, a more efficient flow of information,” Nica explained.

Most of this project will be funded via European money.
