Romania offers financial support to high school students

17 March 2016

More than 60,000 high school students get financial support from the state in the 2015-2016 school year. The state aid is granted through the Money for High School program.

“The financial aid is conditioned by the daily presence, and I believe that any initiative of this kind is meant to decrease school dropout and attract a larger number of children to school,” Education Minister Adrian Curaj said in a Facebook post.

The money is given to students who come from families where the average monthly income per member didn’t exceed RON 150 (EUR 33) in the last three months.

The students receive RON 180 per month (some EUR 40), including during the Baccalaureate exam, according to the Minister.

The highest number of beneficiaries are in the Moldova and Oltenia regions, which are also the country's poorest regions. In Suceava county, over 5,800 students will get the financial aid.

In the previous school year, almost 80,000 students got financial support from the state.
