Romania's industrial output up 3.9% y/y in January-November

Romania’s industrial production index increased by 2.6% in November last year compared to the same month in 2017 (y/y terms), the statistics office INS informed.

In seasonally-adjusted terms, the industrial production index advanced by 0.8% in November compared to October thus completely offsetting the 0.3% decline in October (versus September).

The seasonally-adjusted industrial production index has been rising at significant rates since mid-2016.

In November, the manufacturing industries advanced by 3.1% y/y while the activity in the energy-related industries advanced by 0.2% y/y.

In the whole January-November period, the industrial production advanced on average by 3.9% y/y thanks to the 6.5% increase in the manufacturing industries. The industries with the highest dynamics were the electric equipment production (+18.8% y/y), car production (+14.2% y/y), non-metallic mineral (glass, cement) production and pharmaceutical basic and final production (+7.9% y/y).

Clothing production, once an important part of Romania’s industry plunged by more than 10% y/y in January-November, while the production of leather and fur items eased by only 5.4% y/y.
