Romania gets EUR 31 mln from Norway for environment projects

Romania has received Norwegian and European Economic Area (EEA) grants of EUR 31.1 million for environment projects so far.

The most recent project amounts to EUR 4.5 million, and involves non-reimbursable funding of EUR 3.8 million, reports local Agerpres. The money comes from Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, through the 2009-2014 EEA grants.

The project has started in January this year and will continue until January 2017. It aims to reduce the human and ecosystem vulnerability to climate change.

Between 2009 and 2014, the EEA grants have supported 86 programs in 16 countries in Europe. The allocated amount reaches over EUR 993 million for this period. Norway has contributed by about 94%, Iceland by 5%, and Liechtenstein by over 1%.
