Romania can produce food for 35 million people

04 June 2015

Romania not only produces food to cover national needs, but is an important player at a European and global level, said Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin.

The country can produce food for 35 million people, above its population of almost 20 million as of 2013.

The world population will reach 9 billion people by 2050, which shouldn’t be seen as a worry, but rather as a challenge for all countries to produce more food and benefit from this opportunity, said Constantin, cited by local Agerpres.

Romania’s challenge is to integrate raw materials and export processed products.

The World Bank experts set a long-term target for Romania on agriculture strategy, namely 80% of Romania’s agricultural products exports should be processed products by 2030.
