Romania brings 30 publishing houses to London Book Fair

Thirty Romanian publishing houses will attend this year's edition of the London Book Fair. The fair takes place between March 14 and March 16 at the Olympia Exhibition Center.

Romania’s participation at the fair is dedicated to the memory of poet and philosopher Benjamin Fondane, and is titled “Eternity Ceaselessly Before Us.” Two of Fondane’s works have recently become available in English as the New York Review Books published the poems collection Cinepoems and Others and the essays volume Existential Monday.

Several Romanian authors will attend book launches and related events at the fair. They are Gabriela Adameșteanu, Alexandru Vakulovski, and Carmen-Francesca Banciu. They will be joined by professors Mircea Martin, Ramona Fotiade, and Claudiu Turcuș, author and editor Peter Forbes, translator Jozefina Komporaly, journalist and critic Nicholas Lezard, translators Andrew Rubens and Alistair Ian Blyth, actress Maia Morgenstern, and graphic artist Mihai Șovăială.

The London bookstore Waterstones Piccadilly will showcase some of the recently translated Romanian literature: the novel The Encounter by Gabriela Adameșteanu (Dalkey Archive Press, 2016), the anthology The Review of Contemporary Fiction. Moldovan Literature Issue (Dalkey Archive Press, 2016), Berlin is My Paris by Carmen-Francesca Banciu (Palm Art Press, 2016), and  Norman Manea: Aesthetics as East Ethics by Claudiu Turcuș (Peter Lang, 2016).

The bilingual poetry anthology Poetry and Science. An Anthology of Contemporary Authors from Romania, released in 2016, will also be presented, together with Romania since the Second World War. A Political, Social and Economic History by Florin Abraham (Bloomsbury Publishing, 2016) and I'm an Old Commie! by Dan Lungu (Dalkey Archive Press, 2017).

More than 25,000 publishing professionals attend each year the London Book Fair. Some 1,500 exhibitors from 57 countries be present at this year’s edition.
