Romania and Bulgaria agree to build two new bridges over the Danube

28 October 2014

Romanian and Bulgarian governmental representatives have recently signed in Bucharest a memorandum via which they commit to start building two new bridges over the Danube, between Turnu Magurele and Nikopole and between Calarasi and Silistra. The deadline to inaugurate the first construction is within 2 years, reports local Mediafax.

The two governments will form a joint working group that will establish the technical details and the funding sources for the projects. By next week, Romanian and Bulgarian authorities expect to already have a clear plan on the date when work would start.

Last week, the Romanian government approved a memorandum of understanding with Bulgarian authorities to implement feasibility studies for the two new bridges across the Danube, said government spokesman Corneliu Calota.

Two bridges across the Danube currently connect Romania and Bulgaria, one between Giurgiu and Ruse and one between Calafat and Vidin.
