Retail trade in Romania up by 5.8%

Retail trade in Romania went up by 5.8% in October compared to the same period in 2013, and it posted the fourth largest increase recorded by a member state of the European Union, according to data from the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), cited by local Capital.ro.

In the euro zone, retail trade increased by 1.4% in October, while in the European Union it increased by 2%. The highest increases were recorded in Luxembourg (12.5%), Estonia (6.9%), Slovakia (6.5%) and Romania (5.8%), while decreases were recorded in Malta (3.7%) and Slovenia (0.1%).

Retail trade in the EU has been influenced by the fact that the sales of non-food products increased by 3.1%, while food, beverages and tobacco sales went up by 0.9%.
