The external recruitment rate has been 13.5% in Romania this year, up by 13% compared to last year, according to the PwC Saratoga 2015 study.

However, companies mostly hired new people to replace departed employees (10.3%) whereas the recruitment for new positions was only 2.2%.

“This shows, on one side, that there is an increase of the labor market dynamics in light of a more favorable macro-economic context, which allowed for a larger workforce migration. On the other side, the small number of external recruitments for filling new positions can indicate the fact that Romanian companies are still cautious when it comes to creating new jobs within the existing organizational parameters,” said Horatiu Cocheci, Senior Manager, Leader of Human Resources Consultancy Team at PwC Romania.

The external recruitment rate went up especially for administrative and support positions.

The retail sector remains the area where the external recruitment rate, which amounts to 52.1%, is significantly higher than in other economic sectors.
