(P) Developing public speaking skills

03 October 2011

Starting from 2008, the world has faced challenges both in the financial and economic sector. In this period, marked by uncertainty and fluctuations, companies have faced new difficulties and giving bad news became a current activity. In this period, leaders became motivational coaches for employees and the public. Many things have changed and today we see different business reality.

In times of great change, efficient communication and personal development brings a plus to an organization. Weather we are talking about a company internal meeting, employees’ event, product or service launching, or a management report to shareholders, the qualities in public speaking represent crucial instruments for a proper delivery of the message.

The leadership, recognition and rewards go to those who are willing to stand up and speak up to represent their team, company, management, family, community and industry on issues of concern and valuable information.

Sometime, we are very surprised to see how people pay less attention on the way they deliver a speech, and focus too much on the message. A couple of weeks ago, I attended a conference where the introducer had an excellent performance, as he presented the main speakers. The speakers were top –executives with many years of experience. The message of the conference was very clear, and the organizing was very good.

What was the problem then? The way speeches were conducted.

It looked like the speakers didn’t run any research on their audience. This would have helped them to identify the needs and desires of the audience. Vocal skills are very important as the energy, gestures and facial expressions, enhance delivery, but in this conference case, some of the speaker didn’t inspire the audience. We believe that delivering a speech is an intense activity in which every detail counts, from gesture, vocal skills to message. In Romania, we have very good examples of speakers that understood this and are investing in their public speaking skills development.

As the public speaking sector in Romania is growing, Bucharest Speakers Bureau is focused on speaker booking and providing training in public speaking. Our next event, Executive Public Speaking Program will have as guest trainer- John Evans who has 30 years of experience and more than 5000 speeches delivered. The event will be organized in 25th to 26th October 2011.
