Over 100 pelicans found dead in Romania’s Danube Delta

03 April 2015

A total of 108 pelicans were found dead in the Danube Delta, on Romanian territory. Bird flu seems to be the cause of their death, reports Novinite.com. Authorities later confirmed the cause of death, after taking samples.

According to experts, the birds found dead in Romania’s Danube Delta were part of the same migratory flock as the ones discovered dead in Srebarna, Bulgaria. Almost 30 pelicans were found dead in that area.

On March 25, Romania’s Tulcea Veterinary and Food Safety Directorate was informed about the dead pelicans on Ceaplace island in the Danube Delta, according to a statement of the Veterinary and Food Safety Directorate ANSVSA. The inspectors found some 64 dead pelicans at that time.
