29 July 2014

Telecom operator Orange saw its revenues in Romania flat year-on-year in the first six months of 2013, to EUR 448 million, according to its parent company’s latest financial report. Revenues were lower year-on-year in the second quarter of the year, at EUR 219 million, but were balanced out by the increase in the first quarter.

Out of the total amount, mobile service revenues stood at some EUR 383 million, close to the same level in the first half of 2013. Orange had 10.3 million clients in Romania end – June, 184,000 clients more year-on-year.

“We are happy with the results, despite the impact of the drop in interconnection tariffs,” said Jean-Francois Fallacher, general manager of Orange Romania. The company plans to continue investments in the 4G network, in expanding the applications and TV content area, and in specialize assistance, according to the GM.

The company saw its mobile data traffic up by half in the second quarter of the year, as the number of tablets increased three – fold during the first half. Smartphones too became even more popular – one in two phones sold in the first half of 2014 was a smartphone, according to Orange Romania.

Orange is the largest telecom company in Romania, both turnover wise, and in terms of the number of customers.
