Oradea aims to become the first smart city in Romania

02 February 2016

Oradea, a city located in western Romania, aims to become the first smart city in the country as the City Hall wants to connect all the public institutions to a single online platform.

After the project is finalized, Oradea residents should no longer have to go from one institution to another (no matter if it’s a school, a hospital, a public transport company, and so on) as they will be able to make several operations online, from tax payments to medical appointments, reports local Digi 24.

However, the project is still in its early stages. For now, the City Hall wants to spend up to EUR 30,000 for putting together the digital strategy. The deadline for completing this document is six months.

The first phase of this project should involve the creation of a platform where all the municipality's decisions, taxes, and facilities will be published so that the state institutions can have access to them. This way, the employees’ work would be easier, and the taxpayers would no longer have to make unnecessary trips and stay at queues just to pay their taxes.

The Oradea City Hall also wants to increase the number of public places where people can connect to the Internet.
