New underground parking opens downtown Bucharest

27 February 2015

The underground parking that serves the Intercontinental-National Theater complex downtown Bucharest officially reopened on Thursday, February 27, two years after the revamping works started.

Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu attended the inauguration and promised that the municipality will try more public-private partnerships to modernise and develop parking lots in Bucharest.

The new parking at Intercontinental has a capacity of almost 1,000 places. Belgian group Interparking revamped it with a EUR 3 million investment and will operate it.

The work included the total revamping of the ventilation, plumbing and electrical systems and the complete restoration of the floor, ceiling, walls, and pillars. The parking was also equipped with license plate readers, automatic payment systems, system that detects and signals vacant spaces, data-voice systems, and CCTV.

It also has special places for disabled people and the company also plans to make spaces for electrical cars in the near future.

Drivers have to pay an hourly tariff of RON 3 (EUR 0.67) per hour, but can also opt for a weekly or monthly subscription.

Interparking also operates the underground parking in Universitatii Square, which has a capacity of 425 places.
