New Prime Minister makes it in the top 3 most trusted public personalities in Romania

17 December 2015

Romania’s new Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos is among the three most trusted public personalities in Romania, according to a recent INSCOP survey.

Ciolos took over this position in mid-November this year after massive protests triggered by the tragedy at Colectiv club determined the Government led by Victor Ponta to resign.

The survey conducted between November 26 and December 2 shows President Klaus Iohannis is still the most trusted political personality in Romania. Almost 60% of respondents said they have confidence and great confidence in the President, up from 58.6% in September.

Romania's National Bank - BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu comes next with a share of 40.4% (down from 41.6% in September), followed by Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos with a score of 32.6%.

The top ten continues with Romania’s ambassador to the US George Maior – 29.8%, Foreign Intelligence Service (SIE) director Mihai Razvan Ungureanu – 21.8%, former Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu – 21.4%, former Prime Minister Victor Ponta – 20.2%, president of the National Liberal Party PNL Alina Gorghiu – 18.6%, Minister of Regional Development and Public Administration Vasile Dancu – 17.3%, and former President Traian Basescu – 16.3%.

Confidence in former PM Victor Ponta reached a new low after his resignation while Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, the Senate's President managed to go up in the trust ranking.

The list continues with former Minister of Justice Catalin Predoiu, the president of the Social Democratic Party PSD Liviu Dragnea, former president of the Senate Mircea Geoana, PNL co-president Vasile Blaga, politician Monica Macovei, former Bucharest mayor Sorin Oprescu, former Minister of National Defense Gabriel Oprea, the president of the Democratic Union of Hungarians in Romania Kelemen Hunor, and MEP Laszlo Tokes.

The survey was conducted on a sample of over 1,000 people, at the request of local newspaper Adevarul.
