New moving walkway opened between two Bucharest railway stations

04 November 2013

Several new moving walkways have been opened in Bucharest, connecting the city's main railway station Gara de Nord with nearby railway station Basarab.

The 240-meter, two-way walkway made of three segments, is covered and has a maximum capacity of 6,000 people an hour each way.

The walkways are accessible from within the Gara de Nord and are expected to double the transfer speed between the two railway stations.

There are six two-lane walkways in total, three for each way between the two railway stations. Each of the three is 80 meters long.

The moving walkway cost some EUR 2.5 million. The inauguration was attended by Bucharest mayor Sorin Oprescu who said this was the 'complete civilization range', allowing people access to all the means of transportation in the area.
