New MCV report for Romania expected this week

21 January 2014

A new Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification (MCV) report for Romania will be published on Wednesday, January 22. The report will include the progress made by Romania since its last report in January 2013. This time, the document will also refer to the state of law in Romania, according to Mark Gray, the EC spokesperson, quoted by Mediafax.

The latest mission to check Romania's progress within the MCV took place between November 25 and 27. The report is expected to mention the attempt to pass the under-the-table changes to the Criminal Code in the Parliament, which would have shielded elected officials from corruption prosecution while also re-criminalising defamation.
