Marathon on Romania's high altitude road Transfagarasan raises money for charity this summer

UniCredit Leasing Transmaraton charity running competition will be organized on Romania’s Transfagarasan road, on June 9, 2012, according to the organizers. The competition includes two races, namely a half marathon - with a length of 21 km, and a ultra marathon - 70 km. Both races will start at Cascada Balea. For the half marathon, the maximum number of participants is 100, while for the ultra marathon the number is limited at 10 runners.

The event is organized by Ro Club Maraton and its main purpose is raising funds for NGOs Hospice Casa Sperantei and ViitorPlus. Find more here.

Transfagarasan is a 151-km road that crosses the Fagaras mountains, connecting the counties of Arges and Brasov. It is one of the most spectacular roads in Romania, also nicknamed the 'road in the clouds', and the road at the second highest altitude, after Transalpina. The Transfagarasan reached 2,042 meters altitude, while Transalpina, 2,145.  During winter, the Transfagarasan is closed road for car traffic.
