Lower jobless rate in Romania in January

The unemployment rate stood at 6.5% in January this year, down 0.1 percentage points month-on-month and 0.5 percentage points compared to January 2014.

There were 607,000 unemployed people in Romania in January. The number is lower compared to the 609,000 jobless people in December 2014 and 648,000 in January last year, according to recent data from the National Statistics Institute INS.

Based on gender, the unemployment rate among men was 0.7 percentage points higher than in the case of women – 6.8% compared to 6.1%.

For January 2015, INS estimates an unemployment rate of 5.2% for adults (aged 25-74). This age category represents 73.7% of total unemployed.
