Local company to produce Bombardier trains and sell them in the region

Local company Remarul 16 Februarie, based in Cluj – Napoca, has signed an agreement with Bombardier Transportation to produce trains of high capacity in Romania. Remarul 16 Februarie will hold the exclusivity in producing and selling AGC trains in six countries in South – Eastern Europe- Romania, Greece, Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro.

The AGC trains (Autorails Grande Capacite) is the new generation of regional trains which travels at 160 km per hour. The seating capacity of the trains can range from 160 to 220 seats, depending on the number of cars. The trains can run on either diesel fuel, electricity or hybrid, according to Bombardier.  In France, there are already 600 such trains produced in the last five years.

Bombardier has supplied metro trains for Romania's metro company Metrorex. Bombardier Transportation is also present in Romania with a local subsidiary. Remarul 16 Februarie is a rail stock producer set up in 1870.  The company is currently owned by Transferoviar Group SA, with 32 percent of the shares, individual investor Monica Baiculescu, with 32 percent of the shares, and Nova Cominvest, with 6.5 percent of the shares. The company is trading on the Rasdaq platform of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
