Less than a fifth of Romania’s homes are insured

21 May 2015

Only 17.35% of Romania’s homes benefit from the compulsory insurance PAD.

Of the total 8.8 million dwellings, 1.5 million have been insured against natural disasters, said Nicoleta Radu-Neacsu, general manager of The Pool for Insurance against Natural Disasters (PAID), reports local Economica.net.

PAID wants to increase the insurance rate of residential buildings to 60% in the next ten years, through an education and awareness program. The institution also wants to directly issue the compulsory policies, which are now offered only via insurance companies.

In cities, the home insurance ratio amounts to 23.48%, whereas in villages this reaches only 9.99%. The average insurance premiums amounted to EUR 19 at the end of April.
