Romanian tour operators have received tens of requests from Romanian tourists who want to return from Istanbul after the powerful explosion on Tuesday, which killed at least ten people and injured 15 others.

The blast took place on Tuesday morning near the Blue Mosque, one of Istanbul’s main tourist attractions. Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the explosion was caused by a Syrian suicide bomber and Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that ISIS was behind the attack.

Nine of the ten people killed by the blast were German tourists, according to the Turkish authorities quoted by the local and international media.

According to Romanian tour operators, Istanbul is one of the favored destinations by Romanian tourists. “We are talking about thousands of Romanians who visit this city every year,” said Remus Visan, managing director of Paravion.ro, the largest online travel agency in Romania.

“We have already started to get calls from tourists who want to return to the country urgently and we are making efforts to find the most convenient options for them,” Visan said.
