Hungary: Razor fence at Romania’s border is inevitable

19 February 2016

Hungary is ready to build a metal fence along its border with Romania, according to the Budapest Government.

“We are prepared to build the fence along the border with Romania to stop the immigrants, and chances are we will not be able to avoid this,” said Janos Lazar, Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s chief of staff, cited by Reuters.

Lazar added that the Visegrad group, formed of the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary, maintained the proposal that the EU should secure Greece’s borders.

"The real debate is about whether we help the Balkans countries or not," Lazar said.

There has to be a second line of security between Greece and the Schengen Area.

“2016 will be a challenging year in terms of illegal migration. We are subject to pressures and the country’s security is challenged,” according to the Hungarian official.
