The average monthly income of Romanian households reached RON 2,945 (EUR 654) last year, up 9.6% over 2015.

Meanwhile, the average monthly expenses for each household amounted to about Ron 2.524 (EUR 636), up 7.3% over 2015, according to the National Statistics Institute (INS). This means that a Romanian household spent 85.7% of its total revenues on consumption, down 1.8 percentage points compared to the previous year.

By comparison, the average monthly income per household went up by 7.4% in 2015 over 2014 whereas expenses rose by 3.7% during that period.

The monthly income of a family member in Romania amounted to about EUR 247 in 2016, up EUR 22 over 2015.

Money income accounted for about EUR 584 of the average income of a Romanian household last year.
