20 June 2023

Leading Romanian mountaineer Horia Colibasanu will attempt to summit Broad Peak this summer - one of the highest mountains in the world at 8,051 metres above sea level and his tenth 8000er.

The expedition, set to start this Sunday, June 25, is part of Colibasanu's quest to summit all 14 peaks over 8000 metres. He has already climbed the eight 8000ers in Nepal, the most recent just last year - Kangchenjunga (8,586 m).

"On Sunday, I will set off on a new challenge – I will attempt an ascent of Broad Peak, the 8,051 m high peak in Karakorum, Pakistan," Horia Colibasanu said on his Facebook page.

Horia Colibasanu is a professional sportsman and high-altitude climber. He has successfully climbed nine peaks over 8000 metres so far, among them the K2, Annapurna, and Dhaulagiri - three of the most dangerous mountains in the world. He received the Sports Merit medal from the Government of Navarra (2008); the Spirit of Mountaineering, Piolets d'Or (2009) distinction from the British Alpine Club; and the Star of Romania National Order.
