German TV group RTL withdraws from Romania

08 December 2014

German TV group RTL gave up all seven television licenses held in Romania, for RTL +, RTL II, Cool TV, FILM+2, FILM+, Reflektor and Series+, according to Romania's National Audiovisual Council CNA, reports local Dailybusiness.ro.

The German group announced in late November that it would relocate to Luxembourg its TV operations in Hungary, including several TV stations licenses in Romania.

RTL decided to cut costs on the Hungarian market after the adoption in Hungary of the controversial tax on advertising. None of the licenses in Romania were however used, as RTL had not launched any TV station locally.
