GDF Suez GM: Romania doesn’t need new large energy plants

24 February 2016

Romania doesn’t need new large energy plants, such as the Units 3 and 4 of the Cernavoda Nuclear Power Plant, the Tarnita hydro power plant, or the new project of the 1,000 MW power plant in Rovinari, said Eric Stab, the general director of the energy group GDF Suez Romania.

“I don’t believe in these large projects, because we don’t need them and it’s hard to find someone to invest billions of euro in this climate,” he said, reports local Agerpres.

The country needs instead small energy plants.

“The energy efficiency will grow, the consumption will go down, and we need to come up with new solutions,” Stab said.

In the European Union, the trend is shifting to small plants, and heat plants are closing down, he added.
