Former Romanian footballer Gica Popescu to open first Courtyard by Marriott in the country

Former Romanian football player Gica Popescu will invest ER 20 million in a new hotel in Romanian capital Bucharest, which will be opened under the brand Courtyard Marriott. This will be the first hotel under this brand in Romania and the second in Romania under a Marriott brand.

Gica Popescu Hotels has recently received the agreement to build the hotel under the international brand, and will start construction work downtown Bucharest. The hotel will be rated four stars and will have 146 rooms. Work will start in July this year and will end in one year and a half.

The exact location of the hotel is yet to be announced.

The first Marriott hotel in Romania, JW Marriott, was opened in 2000, following a USD 150 million investment, and it is owned by Austrian group Strabag.
