Foreign direct investments in Romania, up by 27% in the first eight months

Foreign direct investments (FDI) in Romania increased by 27% in the first eight months of this year, to EUR 1.42 billion. In the same period of 2012, FDI were just EUR 1.12 billion, according to data from Romania’s National Bank (BNR).

“Non-residents' direct investment in Romania totaled EUR 1,424 million of which equity stakes (including reinvested earnings) amounted to EUR 1.65 billion and intercompany lending posted net payments of EUR 222 million,” BNR said in a press release.

In 2013, the value of foreign direct investments was EUR 2.71 billion, 27% higher than in 2012, which was the first recovery since the crisis hit in 2008.
