Foreign direct investment in Romania increase in the first quarter

Foreign direct investment in Romania increased by 55% in the first quarter of 2015 compared to the same period of last year, to EUR 885 million, Romania’s National Bank (BNR) announced on Friday, May 18.

The volume of FDI’s recorded in March was EUR 476 million, more than the cumulated value for January and February.

“Non-residents' direct investment in Romania totaled EUR 885 million, of which equity (including estimated net profit) amounted to EUR 200 million and intercompany lending to EUR 658 million (net),” BNR said.

Last year, FDIs in Romania totaled EUR 2.43 billion, down by 10.6% from EUR 2.71 billion in 2013. The largest FDIs were recorded in 2008, when foreign investors brought almost EUR 9.5 billion to the country.
