Forecast: Romania’s advertising market down 3.6% in 2013, slight increase expected in 2015, while Internet still growing

03 October 2013

The advertising market in Romania is expected to decrease by 3.6 percent in 2013, and the internet will be the only type of advertising still on an upward trend, according to the latest Advertising Expenditure Forecasts from ZenithOptimedia.

This year, the internet advertising is expected to account for 12 percent of all advertising consumption in Romania.

Investments in TV advertising are recording a slight decrease of 3 percent, while print remains the main type of media affected, with a drop of 15 percent in the case of newspapers and 10 percent for magazines.

However, ZenithOptimedia expects the annual trend to reverse in 2014 and a one-digit increase in 2015.

The global advertising market is on course to grow 3.5 percent this year, the same rate as in 2012, but stronger growth is expected in the following years, with 5.1 percent in 2014 and 5.9 percent in 2015, “primarily due to the European economy, currently acting as a brake on global ad growth, becoming healthier,” according to the publication.

The Eurozone adspend went down 5.2 percent last year, but a smaller decline is forecasted for 2013, of 4.3 percent, followed by slight growth in 2014 and 2015.
