First NATO command in Romania, operational in June

10 February 2015

Defence Minister Mircea Dusa wants the first NATO command and control headquarters from Romania to become operational in June this year.

The second command, which will be a division one, would be operational within two years, Dusa said.

"Following negotiations, we will put in place a NATO Force Integration Units command, which will exist in six countries, namely the Baltic countries, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria, and a divisional command, one in Poland and one in Romania," said Dusa, cited by local Mediafax.

Last week, the defense ministers of the NATO member states decided that NATO would set up two command and control centers in Romania. Militaries from Romania and from other NATO member states will activate here.

Dusa has not offered any clear information about the location of the two command units.
