European Parliament elections: How many Romanians have the right to vote this Sunday?

23 May 2014

More than 18 million Romanians have the right to vote at the European Parliament elections this Sunday (May 25). The campaign will end on Saturday, May 24, at 7,00, and voters can elect the country’s representatives in the EP on May 25, between 7,00 and 21,00.

The political parties that compete in the elections are the Magyar minority party UDMR, the Democrat Liberal Party PDL, People’s Party - Dan Diaconescu, the Popular Movement PMP, PNTCD, the Civic Force party, the Alternative Socialist Party, the National Alliance of Farmers, PRM, the Green Party, the New Republic Party, the Social Justice Party and the Romanian Ecologist Party.

The PSD-UNPR-PC alliance and eight independence candidates are also competing in Sunday’s elections.

More than 18,500 polling stations will be organized across the country, while Romanian citizens abroad can vote at 190 stations. Some 1,200 polling stations will be located in Bucharest, reports Agerpres.

Citizens will vote separately in closed cabins by applying the stamp “voted” in the box containing the list of candidates or the independent candidate’s first and last name.

No other person than the voter is allowed in the cabin, except if, for good reasons, the person can’t vote alone.

The Central Electoral Bureau forbids entering the voting cabin with devices that can take pictures or film the voting bulletin inside the cabin, as well as leasving the polling stations with the voting bulletin.
