Energy Community investigates Romanian gas transporter Transgaz

10 April 2015

The Energy Community has asked Romania’s gas transporter Transgaz to explain why it has not complied with the EU regulation on publishing data about transported gas. The European institution and the European Commission will start an investigation to evaluate the case.

“It is unacceptable for an EU member not to publish transparent data. Transgaz might have violated regulations in the third package," said Janez Kopac, director of the Energy energy Community Secretariat, according to Mediafax.

Energy Community representatives have asked Transgaz to explain why it hasn’t provided open data on natural gas transit from Russia at the entrance and exit points with Ukraine and Bulgaria. The pipeline in question is Trans-Balkan, which transports natural gas from Russia to Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, and Turkey.

Transgaz admitted that it failed to respect the EU legislation. It said that it was because of contracts with Russian company Gazprom.
